Flowers Band are pleased to announce the appointment of two of banding's finest musical directors who will be fronting the band for their assaults at Torquay and Blackpool this year..........plus the return of an old friend! Flowers Band are pleased to announce that Dr. Roy Newsome and Garry Cutt will be leading the band for their performances at the West of England Regional Championships and the Grand Shield respectively in 2009. Band manager Lee Downie commented, "We felt that both of these fine conductors would do a wonderful job on the chosen test pieces. Dr. Newsome is no stranger to Salute To Youth, whilst we felt that someone of Garry's caliber would leave no stone unturned in our bid to return to the British Open this year". Flowers are also gearing up for the annual Yeovil Entertainments Contest and are very pleased to see the return of former MD Philip Harper, who will lead the band for what could be a hat-trick of wins at this competition. The band are also saying goodbye to a number of players. Eb Bass Michelle Hockings, a long standing member of the band, has decided to head to pastures new and will cross over the Severn Bridge to join Welsh rivals Tredegar Town, whilst front row player Jemma Evans is also leaving to join Tredegar's rivals, the BTM Band. Second cornet player Jannine Aston is also saying 'au revoir' to the band due to increasing work demands. The band's Lee Downie continued, "The band would like to thank Michelle, Jemma and Jannine for their contribution and hard work over the years and wish them all the very best for the future. We will of course be issuing a press release on who will be stepping into these empty positions very soon.
