Only a few days to go now until the 63rd Fife Charities Band Association Open Contest.

The venue is the Adam Smith Theatre in Kirkcaldy, which is on Bennochy Road, KY1 1ET.

14 bands are entered for the contest. It's been pre-drawn, and since the draw bands number 1 and number 9 have withdrawn, the contest will now start with band number 2 at 10.20am and the interval ( after band number 8 ) will be extended to 30 minutes.

Each band is playing an own choice march, hymn tune and testpiece. Tickets are priced at £5 and £3. The two regional youth bands will perform a short concert before the results.

    Bon Accord 'B' - 3rd
    Brass Sounds Inverclyde - 4th
    Broxburn & Livingston - 1st
    City of Discovery - 2nd

For you .. head southeast from the Shire, over the Kincardine bridge and follow signs for Rohan. Keep going, Mordor is on the left, you can't miss it. Shut the gate behind you and make yourself at home :)

I am sure we were at this contest last year-----in fact won a few trophies----------but it was in Falkirk I am sure. Does Kirkcaldy have electricity?

This contest hasn't taken place since 2006. I have no recollection of one taking place in 2007 ;-) Haha.

    See you on Saturday.

smaca - not only does Kirkcaldy, home of the mighty Raith Rovers FC, have electricity, but there will be hot and cold water and even soap in the "facilities", which will be of novelty interest to our friends from Dunfermline and other parts of west Fife.....

Seroiusly, disappointed to be missing the chance to play with Perthshire in my home town, but we as a band are rebuilding at present with several youth band folks stepping up to replace experienced players whose work is taking them to such diverse locations as Brisbane, Edmonton (the Alberta one) and even Londonderry. An entertainment contest might have been OK, but at this stage not where a test piece is involved.
The venue in its present form - c.400 seat main auditorium and other halls / suites - dates back to around 1972 (prior to which there was one massive hall similar to so many other civic centres built about 100 years ago - Perth, Dundee, Glasgow City Hall etc), and from what I recall from playing there years ago the acoustic is pretty good.
Had booked the day off work just in case we entered, if I'm still off may try to pop down for a while during the day purely as a listener.
