Playing some of my band recordings again and was blown away by Ray Farr's arrangement of Softly Softly (Bridget Fry/Wess) as played by BAYV on Day Of The Dragon CD. Which number would you like to open a concert with?

Opus One is a great opener! gets the audience listening to the band...as does Trumpet Blues & Cantabile. i love the jiggy pieces!

Although GoldCrest is a good march to open with...plus singing!

I like to open with a march (or the National Anthem!), but I also like something like Olympic Fanfare (John Williams). Sounds good with troms and cornets stood up across the stage facing out (if there's room). Wakes the audience up, too!
Any piece with a fanfare beginning works well I think.

One of my favourite programmes in my 60's Imps days was to open with "Introduction to Act 3 Lohengrin" followed by "William Tell Overture" (All).
We'd finish with "1812" and send them home happy.
