Hi, Not sure if this has been done before but who would be in your fantasy band, made up of players currently playing in contesting bands
Gosh; it would be a tall order to name a whole band, but I will kick off with my choice of principal cornet, and that would have to be Richard Marshall. I will leave others to fill in the remaining places. Barry
Bass Section - Eb's- Joe Cook (Dyke) and Simon Howell (Cory)- BBb's Matt Routley (dyke) and Frazer Bish (Cory). What a section!
Soprano-Paul Duffy/Bert Van Thienen Principal cornet-Richard Marshall Principal Horn-Owen Farr Principal baritone-Katrina Marzella Principal Trombone-Chris Jeans Principal Euph-David Childs Basses-Les Neish Joe Cook Matt Routley Mike Smith
Solo Trom - Charlize Theron 2nd trom - Me Bass Trom - Angelina Jolie Now that's my fantasy trom section. Sorry darling I've got band every night this week and loads of sectionals. ;-)
I like the fact that vast majority of players picked so far are from the modern era. Does this the consensus is that previous generations aren't as revered?
... or is it because the OP specified "... your fantasy band, made up of players currently playing in contesting bands" ... ?
I think if I had actually read all of the words in the original post I might have saved myself from putting my foot in it!

There was a Fantasy Band created by 4Barsrest made up of players (dead or alive ) which made very interesting reading and well worth looking up. I recall that even J B Arban was included, Enjoy & compare.
Just a thought for an adaption of this thread (and a little more mileage), why not a fantasy band for each Area? This could again be stretched, to each section of each Area. (Just thinking aloud!) Quite a test of knowledge of who's around your patch.
Genius  I'm thinking a cornet section comprising 9 of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, with me on bottom 3rd cornet Was talking about this sort of thing earlier, funnily enough, and querying why every time there is this sort of "fantasy band", soloists are nominated for every seat? There are specific skills require to be a 2nd euph, or bumper up, or 2nd horn, or bottom 3rd cornet in a really good band. These are different to the skills needed for end chairs, yet end chair players are nominated for every seat. It's a bit like nominating 11 strikers for a fantasy football team. Might be more interesting to start picking players in "supporting" seats at the top bands - tougher, too, because these players have a lower profile simply because of the nature of their seats.
