Not fully, but I know Hayle Band came first and Soundhouse band came second. Best Soloist went to Fran Bowman of Lympstone playing Rodrigos Concierto de Aranjuez.

    Well done Hayle!
So is that a 3rd section band (promoted 2009) in 1st place
    A 2nd Section band (promoted 2009) in 2nd place
    A 3rd Section band in 3rd place
    A 1st Section band in 4th.
Who was adjudicating and how many bands altogether?

Sounhouse are 1st section now aren't they? South Molton are 2nd, and Tiverton and Appledore are ungraded as they don't contest.

Soundhouse will be in the First Section for 2009. Quite a few of the bands were ungraded. An interesting day's contesting I suppose. Would be nice to know what exactly the adjudicator was looking for - how many points for entertainment and how much for playing. I hope everyone that attended the contest had a good day, shame about the weather.

I think the contest needs to think about more guidelines and parameters for future years re. the breakdown of points given by the adjudicators.

    Any thoughts?

One Adjudicator once told me that he allocated 80% points for playing standard and 20% for entertainment value but I suppose it depends on the individual. Who was doing this year? Do your comments not give you any idea of what he/she was looking for?
    so results for Exmouth 2008 by national grading was;
    1) 3rd section (p 2009)
    2) 2nd section (p 2009)
    3) 3rd section
    4) 4th section
    5) 1st section
    6) 2nd section
    7) ungraded
    8) 3rd section
    9) 2nd section
    10) 4th section?
    11)4th section
    12)4th section
    13)4th section
    14)4th section
    15) ungraded
Sounds like it was an interesting day out anyway!

ps just looking at stats for predicting next years Areas!

The adjudicator was Dennis Wilby this year. Don't think you can gleam too much about area results for next year from these results to be honest. I think the banmd that came 10th, Uttoxeter are ungraded.

True you cannot judge the Areas from this contest but it does give an indication of which bands are on form or not although having said that I think you can borrow players from any section for Exmouth which changes things slightly?
We compete against Heyl, South Molton and Phoenix next year which is why I am interested!

Yes, you can play up to 35 players at Exmouth and basically anyone can play for anyone else on the day as long as they only play for one band - there is no registration at all.

So it really is entertainment then! Anyone who fancies a blow just shows up at whichever band they get invite to. Would be a good one for us as most of us could play. 11 players have missed out for the National Finals this month as we are overfull.

Uttoxeter are unranked and it was their very first contest (Or so I'm told) so 10th place is a very impressive result!

Are Uttoxeter to compete in the Areas next year then? Would they be Midlands?
