A brand new and exciting work for euphonium by Richard Grantham will be premiered by the talented euphonium ace, Michael Howley at a concert later this month.

Accompanied by the United Co-op Yorkshire Brass Band, Michael will perform the work, entitled Euphoria, at a concert in Ossett Town Hall on Saturday 19 November. This is the second work by Richard that the band has premiered this year and is another superb addition to the repertoire of any euphonium player.

“The music itself is another well-crafted work from the pen of Richard Grantham which tests the euphonium soloist and band in all respects and, at this concert, it forms the basis of an exciting relationship between a very forward looking band and the acclaimed talent of Michael,” said the band’s manager, Tabby Clegg.

A former principal euphonium player with the Rothwell Temperance Band and the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, since studying euphonium under the likes of Steven Mead, Robert Childs and James Gourlay at the Royal Northern College of Music, Michael has developed a reputation as one of the country’s finest young talents on the euphonium, holding principal seats in the Fairey Band and YBS and winning numerous awards including being crowned the European Euphonium Player of the Year at the Music en Picarde music festival in Northern France.

“Once again it is exciting to be bringing this kind of new music to the ears of listeners and with such an esteemed player as Michael giving the premiere of Euphoria, it will no doubt inspire many players to further develop their own repertoire,” said Tabby.

Tickets are priced £5 and available on the night or by e-mailing
