Emley Brass band today finished thier 2009 contest campaign on a high with a win at the Bolsover Entertainment Contest in the 3rd/4th Section.
Playing a program of O Fortuna, Birdland, Minnie the Moocher (Bass trombone solo), Teddy Bears Picnic, the 4th Movement from Dvorjaks New World Symphony and an encore of the Circus March The Big Top Emley were given top honours by adjudicator Ian Porthouse.

It finishes off a successful year, the band already having won the Stocksbridge Band Club season "most entertaining band" title, the band also holds the titles of Pogson Bray Trust own choice test piece contest Section B Champions and Wychaven Festival of Brass Section B Champions.

Although the contest season is over for the band, a lot of hard work still lies ahead for the boys and girls of Emley with the bands first ever CD recording coming up in November and a full Christmas season of concerts just round the corner, we can now start to look forward to the step up in competition next year as the band proudly takes its place in the 2nd section for the first time since the 1960s following a creditable 3rd placing at the Yorkshire Area finals 3rd section contest back in March.

Well done Garry, pity we only got 3rd at Bolsover, just goes to show you've got a job on to beat the northern bands KSJ.
