Elland Silver Youth Band were awarded 1st place at the Hardraw Scar Brass Band festival on Sunday 13th September. Competing in the Fourth and Ungraded Band Section, the band was awarded 1st place by top adjudicator Mr Kevin Wadsworth. Mr Wadsworth described the performance as a “top show” and was stunned by the capability of the young musicians. The band performed a 20 minute programme, which featured two of the bands talented young soloists. Principal cornet player, Phillip Varley, aged 17 played the “Adirondacks Polka” and the bands solo trombone player, Daniel Eddison, aged 14 performed “Every Time We Say Goodbye”. Four new players made their debut with the band having been recently promoted from the Elland Silver Training Band and were delighted to collect the silverware. This success completes a hat trick of wins for the band in the past year having been awarded first place in the entertainment division of the Action Youth Entertainment Championships in February and also first place in the Brighouse March Contest in July. The youth and training band are always open to new members aged 7 upwards and anyone interested should contact the bands secretary Mrs Kathleen Harrison on 01484 717126 for further information.
