Elland Silver Band will be presented with the Queens Award for Voluntary Service, the MBE for Voluntary Groups at their “Help for Heroes” charity concert on Saturday 13th November at Halifax Minster. The prestigious National Honour recognises outstanding contributions made to local communities by groups voluntarily devoting their time for the benefit of others. It sets the national benchmark for excellence in volunteering, with the work of those awarded being judged of the highest standard. Elland Silver Band has received the Award for its work over many years by its outstanding team of volunteers who provide expert musical tuition to people of all ages and backgrounds, for performing brass band music to the local and wider community, supporting local and national charities and for continuing the heritage of brass bands. Winners of this year’s Award were selected from 341 groups nominated by members of the public who have been helped personally or witnessed the benefits of a group’s work in their community. The band will be presented with a certificate signed by the Queen and an exclusive commemorative crystal by Vice Lietenant of West Yorkshire Mr John Brennan OBE DL MA. Elland Silver Band will receive a certificate signed by the Queen and an exclusive commemorative crystal This special concert will feature the Elland Silver Band conducted by Jim Shepherd, Elland Silver Youth Band conducted by Samantha Harrison and special guests The Jubilee Gospel Choir from Bradford conducted by Maria Leach. The concert will also be recorded by local radio station Phoenix radio to be broadcast at a later date. “We couldn’t have chosen a better event to mark this fantastic occasion, which recognises all the hard work our volunteers have put into the band over the years,” explained Kathleen, the bands Secretary. Proceeds from the event will be shared with the “Help for Heroes” charity, Halifax Minster and band funds.
