Downton Band faces a busy weekend on the 2nd and 3rd May. As part of the famous Downton Cuckoo Fair, Downton Band, who has recently celebrated 140 years of music making, is giving several outdoor performances, giving brass and percussion demonstrations, selling cakes to raise funds for the band and holding a spectacular Movie Concert with a difference!

Downton Band will be making several appearances on the Saturday of the Cuckoo Fair. The band will open proceedings in the morning with a fanfare followed by leading the colourful procession through the village. Downton Band will also give two performances outside the Memorial Hall in the afternoon and have a stall nearby where people of all ages can come and have a go at playing brass and percussion instruments.

Downton’s Musical Director Paul Williams said “We are planning to launch a new project in September called ‘Bash and Blow’ where we will encourage people of the village to take up a musical instrument. We will even lend you an instrument and give tuition. So look out for the Downton Band stall where several instruments will be available for you to try out.”

The band are also busy on Sunday 3rd May with a Movie Themed concert that will feature many hit songs and soundtracks with a unique twist – the first half of the concert will be in the form of a Movie music quiz. The audience will be asked to team up and answer questions on the film scores being played.

Downton’s Musical Director Paul Williams added “The concert will be lots of fun. As well as a chance to listen to lots of brilliant music composed for the silver screen, the audience have a chance to show off their knowledge of film and compete for fantastic prizes!”

Tickets for the concert cost £7 for adults and £5 for children and include popcorn! Tickets are available from the White Horse pub or the Borough Café in Downton or on the door.
