Sunday 21st September saw both Staines Brass and their sister band the Staines Lammas Band take the contest stage. Staines Brass at the Wychavon Festival of Brass at Pershore, Worcestershire and the Staines Lammas Band at Challenging Brass held in Addlestone, Surrey. Other than the regional qualifiers this is the first contest Staines Brass have entered in over two years and gained a superb 3rd place. The band worked extremely hard and played very well after a long day and last place draw taking the stage at 8.00pm. The Allen Geare Cup was presented to Mr Bob Howell, a long serving member and trustee of the band. Bob said “I was very honoured to accept the cup on the bands behalf and the future seems to be looking more positive after a difficult couple of years”. The Staines Lammas Band were competing at Challenging Brass, a friendly contest for four local non-contesting bands held each year at the Addlestone Community Centre. The band was aiming for a hat-trick of wins after taking the top spot in 2006 and 2007. The band just missed out on their third successive win taking second place, but still a remarkable achievement none the less. It was a good day all round in the Staines camp which is going from strength to strength.
