    Fantastic news!

Grimethorpe Colliery Band have made links with Dobcross Youth Band and are now going to be supporting the young players of today!

Here are a few ways that Grimethorpe will be supporting us.

The bands will join together to perform joint concerts, players from Grimethorpe will be running master classes and taking sectionals before important concerts and contests. Dobcross Youth Band also offer an award for the player of the month, Grimethorpe have extented that award by inviting the winner of that award to play with the band in rehearsals.

Dobcross Youth Band over the last 21 years have helped support some of the best players, not only in the North West but Nation wide. Some of just a few players to mention are; Peter Smith who is currently the Tuba player for the Philharmonia Orchestra. Garrath Beckwith who has played for the Royal Variety show, Halle Orchestra and the BBC philharmonic Orchestra and of course is the Bass Trombone player for the Grimethorpe Band. All these players played for the band for many years and even today continue to support the band.

The link between the two bands is only going to improve the quality of our young brass players of today, thus securing the tradition and quality of the bands we have today.

Dobcross Youth Band would like to thank Terry Webster and the Grimethorpe Band for their support. The band were over the moon when I announced the news at band and we are very much looking forward to being in partnership with such a fantastic band!

    Many thanks Grimey!
