The Dobcross Silver Band would like to publicly thank three members who have now left the band for pastures new, after helping the band take another podium place at the North West Area contest

Darren Jones joined the band in 2002 from the Point of Ayr band on the bumper-up seat before Rebecca Crawshaw left our ranks for the Fairey Band. He then took over the Soprano seat from Rebecca and has held the position until now. Darren has made a bit of a name for his self, both as a quality player and as a soloist within the band.

Christina Saunders (Darren’s partner) joined at the same time as Darren on Flugel (again, from the Point of Ayr Band) before taking over the Solo Horn seat last year. Christina has done a sterling job on both the flugal and more recently as our solo horn player. Both have now left the band to do a bit of travelling around Europe before getting married in the summer. They will then be moving to Australia later this year.

Simon Pymm joined the band in 2003 and was a product of the Dobcross Youth band. Simon became a popular member of the band, and was a favourite with the audiences for his drum solos. He has now left to concentrate on a fledgling career as a rock drummer with his own group who have been given a recording contract.

All three players have been instrumental in the success that Dobcross Silver Band has had over the last few years and they will be sorely missed. We would like to say a big thank you to them and we wish them all the very best in the future.

The band are very pleased and honoured to have been chosen as the only British participants at this years Swiss Open so we are looking forward to September, as well as the Senior Trophy and next years Butlins Mineworkers Open Contest
But we have now been left with these vacancies, so if there are any budding Soprano cornets, horn (solo or 1st) players and percussionists out there, then please don’t hesitate to ring Dennis Hadfield (MD) on 07957 87123 or me on 07940 856977. We would be glad to hear from you. You can also get in touch with me via email at
