This year is the 130th anniversary of the Dobcross Silver Band and to celebrate this, the band is to hold a Gala concert in the Uppermill Civic Hall. The concert is to be held on Friday the 4th of November, commencing at 19:30pm. We are very pleased to announce that a band made up of former players (to be led by Les Beavers) will be performing the first half of the concert. This band is to contain some very well known and high profile players (both past and present) from the banding world. They include: Principal cornet for the night and travelling all the way from Switzerland, Angelo Bearpark, the world whistling champion and former cornet champion of Great Britain, David Morris, Herbert Howarth ( former CWS Manchester), Stephen Booth (former Black Dyke and Fairey) , Paul Walton (former Black Dyke and Desford), Dennis Holmes and Gilbert Symes (formerly with Brighouse and Rastrick) Their program will include: “Old Comrades”, “Light Cavalry”, “Ida &Dot” (played by Angelo Bearpark and David Morris) and “An Epic Symphony”. The second half will be taken by the current Dobcross Silver Band who will be performing “Laurence of Arabia”, “A Manchester Tale”, “Children of Sanchez” (flugal soloist David Moore), “The Piper of Dundee” (horn soloist Christina Saunders) and some of the program from the bands recent Wychavon Entertainments Contest program. The concert will finish with a massed band. There will also be a “History Board” display with photos, letters and other various bits of Dobcross paraphernalia. Compare for the evening will be Ian Gibson (Famous for the Navigation pub) who will be travelling from Spain for the occasion. This promises to be a memorable and nostalgic evening for all involved. The band is desperate for any former players who are not involved, but would like to attend, to get in touch with us. We would be happy for you to come along and join in the celebrations for one of the North-West’s finest bands. Tickets are now available from Dobcross Band Club (01457 873741) or by ringing Barbara Cumberworth on 01457 810977. Tickets are priced at £5.
