Is anyone else on tMP playing at this new contest? I'll be playing with Horsham Borough Band. I believe Redbridge and Brass Band Heist are going too. Does anyone know the full line up of bands?

Brass Band Gent is calling all hands on deck, but it looks that they might be entering as well.

I reckon this one's gonna be pretty one-sided...

Having heard Brass Band Heist at the Euro Brass last year, ignore them at your peril. The general standard of European banding really is much higher than most people think. I'd put them second favourites with a real chance of taking first place.

Hmmm ... I'm not convinced; the problem for me seems to be that the organisers don't seem to be able to decide whether this is an "entertainments" contest or not. I'm not suggesting that this was a factor in our deciding not to enter this year - lack of time was a far bigger consideration. However, we would like to consider it for next year (assuming it is enough of a success) - but much would depend on people's perception of the results this year ... ie: are bands rewarded for musical excellence, or for visual "gimmicks" ... ?

Hi Gareth, I think this one's going to be more about music than gimmicks but we will see. Hopefully it will be a success this year and DFDS will agree to sponsor the event again.

I agree! I've heard them a few times and they're better every time. And rumour has it they may have some help from a few of Bert's Welsh friends!

In the marking scheme, it's certainly a lot more about musical excellence than gimmicks. Only 10 points out of 100 for presentation, stagecraft, timings.
It will be interesting to see what happens on the day.

Hello, to stop every speculation I can confirm that one Welsh friend is helping us out for the contest. Chris Thomas will play the 1st trombone.
