Having conducted/played many of Denis Wright's show selections ( e.g. Carousel, King and I, West Side Story, etc.) and now finding myself also playing Tuba in a Concert Wind Band, I find that they too have the same selections, but arranged by W J Duthoit with the same titles, transition passages and finales as the brass band arrangements.
Does anyone know if there is a connection between these two gentlemen? It seems surprising that two different arrangers produce the same work.

There is an apocryphal story that W J Duthoit, who was professor of instrumentation at Kneller Hall, used to get his students to arrange an individual song from a particular show and then he would link the students efforts together to produce the finished selection. (Story told to me by two former student bandmasters at Kneller Hall.)

    Thanks.
