Ian Watkinson, former soprano cornet with Tottenham Citadel Band, who came to Canada following the still talked about tour of 1964, has died. Following is the notice posted on the website of the Canadian Staff Band:

    October 23, 2012
The Canadian Staff Band is saddened to announce the loss of one of its founding members, Ian Watkinson.

Ian was the CSB's longtime soprano cornet player, both under Major Norman Bearcroft and then Captain Robert Redhead. He later played solo horn under Brian Burditt, retiring in 2001 following the CSB's second tour of Australia and New Zealand. In 2010, he came out of retirement to fill a need on second horn and played with the band under John Lam for just over a year, before illness prevented him from continuing.

In recent years, Ian enjoyed a long association, both as a member and eventually as bandmaster, with Toronto's Heritage Brass, where his presence will be particularly missed.
