Isle of Arran and lovin' it!
Sorry if a similar thread exists elsewhere (I haven't seen it yet) but on 4br there's news that Ifor James, long term member of the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble and one time conductor of Besses, passed away after a long illness on December 23rd.

I have plenty of recordings of what I consider the 'A' quintet in the PJBE's history, of Howarth, Jones, James, Iveson and Fletcher to know what a truly outstanding player he was. May he rest in peace.

I was never fortunate enough to hear Ifor James live, but have many of his recordings. I was only listening the other day to him playing the Gregson "Concerto for French Horn & Band" - lovely work, and a pity it isn't heard more often.
