The new season has started very well for Brass Band "De Bazuin" Oenkerk (The Netherlands) and its conductor, Klaas van der Woude. On Saturday, September 24th, the band took part in the 16th Swiss Open Contest in Lucerne (Switzerland), and gained 4th place.

The contest was part of the 7th World Band Festival, which is taking place between September 24th and October 2nd 2005. Besides the contest, the festival consists of a gala concert by the Black Dyke Band, concerts by several Swiss orchestras and a concert by Canadian Brass.

De Bazuin's programme for the Swiss Open contained a march and a contest piece that had to be selected from a list made up by the organisation. From this list, De Bazuin Oenkerk choose Mussorgsky´s classic Pictures At An Exhibition, as arranged by Elgar Howarth.

After the summer break, the band started its rehearsals again on August 24th. The participation in the 16th Swiss Open Contest was made possible with the collaboration of the Dutch "Fonds voor Amateurkunst en Podiumkunsten" (Fund for Amateur and Stage Arts)
