It's always good to look around the net for decent instruments at a decent price. What are you thinking about getting? Another Yamaha, or are you wanting to go for a second-hand Sovereign or try other models? Is it medium, medium-large or large bore that you are considering? There is a nice medium-large bore cornet on sale here but see what you think.

Well, I'm not too sure where the Yamaha sits in the range but I bought
my daughter the Getzen Capri 580s from Dawkes Music for much about
the price you mention new, and she's well pleased - she plays it in our
3rd Section band. I reckon it will keep her going thru her Uni years and
maybe when she joins a better band in later years she may want a Sov
    or something similar...

I have to say, as a former Sov and now a Smith Watkins owner, I'm very
impressed with the Getzen build quality - esp the silver plate.

You'd get a decent second hand maestro for that money if you want to stay with a Yamaha. With the Xeno now out there should be a fair few Maestros available.
