Do any of you have them?

Yes. In the warm up room when the bands are congregating in preparation for going on stage I warm up with some excerpts of last year's selected test pieces, just to see if there are any takers. In all seriousness I like to sit apart from the rest quietly and do nothing but take deep breaths and relax. I get into my uniform as soon as I can.

My pre-contest nerves always seem to express themselves in a aromatic way

Generally, judging by comments on this forum, the routine is:

    Rehearse a piece for months.
    Go to contest.
Lose (or not come first, anyway.)
Get home and join the WeWizRobbed brigade. (With due apologies to tMP member WeWizRobbed, who to my knowledge has never been eponymous!)

Mine varies depending on the contest, but most start with a fry up, and butlins tends to be a pint or two too many the previous night.
