I am undergoing a change of instrument. I would like some opinions on the merits or otherwise of Conn and Courtois flugels..... Can anyone help?
    Thanks very much

My advise? Try both - along with as many of the other alternatives as you can, preferably back-to-back if you can wrangle it with your instrument supplier. Then go for the one that works best for you.

Flugels still have quite a span of different design philosophies (probably more so than many other brass band-specific instruments) - large bore, small bore, different bell flares, different 'sounds', so for all the well meaning advise given here, really the best way is to try them yourself.

(BTW for me - Conn any day of the week, but then I don't play on either a Conn or a Courtois...;))
  5. Courtois is good - Conn better.
