Hi, I'm a French Horn Player and am looking for a horn. I know that the Conn 8DS is probably what I'll purchase. I heard from a friend who already has one that every year Conn switches what instrument it produces, and that he got his for about $2,600(Musician's friend lists them at $3,400). Is this true? And if so, what instrumkent are they producing now and what exactly is the order?

Cannot find information specific to horn manufacture but maybe their website might help you a little ...

Already looked. Does anyone know if this is even true?

Also, I've been seeing a lot of terminology that I don't understand. What is a bright or Dark Tone? What is the bore of the instrument? And what is the throat exactly referring to? Is branch referring to a section of tubing made of one piece of metal?
    Thanks

I Know what horn I need. These sites don't have anything about terminology either. THanks for trying. Also, the manufacturing years?

Normans (UK) has a simple and clear guide on horn features here.

Thank You, that answered most of my questions. I think the throat is referring to the taper of the bell? Well if no one seems to know the manufacturing years, I'll stop asking.
    Thanks for the help.

    - that's correct, the bigger the throat the darker the sound.
