    Hi folks,

I was just wondering if conductors in England (or elsewhere) are getting paid or not.

Here in Switzerland they are getting paid (thats the normal case, I know that some conductors do it for free but that's en execption).

The amount depends on the musical eduction of the conductor and the level (section) of the band. In my region e.g. a conductor of a 4th section band gets paid env. £ 2000.--- p.a.

I think a small expenses + rehearsal payment for lower sections bands is quite common to a similar level in the UK.

Ours doesn't ask for anything. The band gives him a "gift" every year - £250 or something like that, but it's pittance really. I spose we're very lucky!

Edit: forgot to mention we're a 4th sect band

We are going to find it a bit interesting from now on since Neil, who has never been paid a penny in 'fees', has retired. Our next MD is going to be expecting pennies to be paid. :(

Our MD is worth every penny of his modest fee!
