This Saturday (13th May), Chatham Salvation Army Band (Bandmaster Carl Woodman) and Songsters (Songster Leader Adrian Horwood) are presenting a Celebration of the music of Lieut-Colonel Ray Steadman-Allen in the Chatham Salvation Army Citadel. Ray, along with his wife Joy, is a member of Chatham Salvation Army church. Guest cornet soloist, Kevin Ashman (principal cornet, The International Staff Band) will be playing 'Rhapsody on Negro Spirituals' and guest pianist Richard Phillips (Bandmaster, Kettering Citadel Band) will be the soloist in Fantasia for Piano and Band on 'Christ is the Answer'. Kevin and Richard will together present 'Sing Hosanna'. Colonel Steadman-Allen will introduce each of his works being performed, offering a unique insight into his inspiration and compositional thought processes. The Colonel will also be interviewed by a former Chatham corps officer, Major Malcolm Westwood. 'Daystar' will be the major presentation from the band who will also play the marches 'Hadleigh Camp' and 'The High Council'. Songster Leader Horwood will be the euphonium soloist in 'The Conqueror'. The songsters will be presenting a diverse range of vocal music by the Colonel including the demanding 'A Childhood Suite' The evening commences at 7pm and tickets will be available on the door.
