Brass Band Concert for Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund Final plans are now being made for a Massed Band Concert in aid of the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund. The concert will take place this Saturday 15th October at All Saints & St Margaret’s Church, Pakefield, Lowestoft at 7:30pm. The concert was the idea of 22-year-old Hannah Cook, a cornet player with Cawston. Hannah was deeply moved at the time of the disaster as only a few months earlier Hannah herself was in Mississippi studying for a year as part of an American History degree. Several of her closest friends and their relatives lost all of their possessions as their home were flooded. Hannah then thought how could she help the relief fund and decided the most constructive thing she could do was to organise a band concert. Her hope was that there would be enough players volunteer to form a normal sized band, however she has been overwhelmed by the response she has had and now over 50 players have agreed to play on the night. The band is made up of brass players from the East Anglia area and draws its players from Cawston Band, Castleton Brass, Great Yarmouth Brass, Dereham Band, Fakenham Band, Hellesdon & Sprowston Brass, Clacton-on-Sea Co-op and Norfolk Wherry Brass. Colin Swaep, Musical Director of Cawston Band, will conduct the band on the night. The programme will be of light concert music with an American flavour. Tickets will be available on the door at the price of £4 for Adults and £3 for concessions, but can be reserved in advance by contacting Hannah on 07738 090556 or 01502 563356 and also from Allens of Great Yarmouth and Morlings of Lowestoft. Even if you are not playing please try and attend the concert as it promises to be a fantastic evening's entertainment for a very worthwhile cause.
