Celebrating the big 125! 2006 will be a celebratory year for the Brighouse & Rastrick Band as it celebrates its 125th Anniversary. With a range of exciting events planned, the band is kicking-off its celebrations with the announcement of the Brighouse & Rastrick Band 125 Composition Competition. This will be one of the most prestigious composition awards in 2006 with £1000 prize money up for grabs and is open to both new and established composers (though current members of B&R are ineligible to enter). The brief for the competition is to compose an original 3 to 4 minute long concert ‘opener’ to be premiered at the ‘B&R 125 Celebration Concert’ in Huddersfield Town Hall in March 2006. The composition must not have been performed in public prior to March 2006 and the winning work will be performed exclusively by the Brighouse & Rastrick Band until December 2006. The piece will also be published by Kirklees Music, who will present the composer with a trophy and a publishing contract. The composition will be judged by an eminent panel which is to be announced and the judge’s decision will be final. No correspondence will be entered into, apart from acknowledging receipt of entries, contact with the winner and the returning of runner-up compositions. All entries (score and parts) are to be received by B&R by 12 noon on 31st December 2005 and the winner will be announced through the banding press in early 2006. Entries should be sent to: The Brighouse & Rastrick Band, c/o Mr. A.J.Wilkinson,13, Cheviot Avenue, Meltham, Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, HD9 4DW.
