The Smiths - How Soon Is Now.

There's a club if you'd like to go - you could find someone who really loves you.
So you go and you stand on your own - and you leave on your own
And you go home - and you cry - and you want to die.

    Cheerful Innit?;)

That sounds more like 10pm on a contest night:rolleyes: when we all wish we'd not downed that 12th G&T.

"I'm expressing with my full capabilities, and now I'm living in correctional facilities."
NWA. Only they could get 'correctional facilities' into a line!

"If there's a god, would he give another chancer an hour to sing for his soul."
    Oasis

    "Set 'em up, Joe."
Ol' blue eyes/Sir Bob of Williams

"Just another highbrow cowboy telling me everything and everyone and all the things I ought to be."
    Def Leppard

"Hush litle baby, don't say a word, and never mind that noise you heard. It's just the beasts under your bed. In your closet, in your head."
    Metallica

Plus ANYTHING by the beastie boys!

And just for our discworld loving friend:
"The giraffe can, if you use a stepladder, but the hedgehog...."

Thank you Mr Ball - you've given Nanny a love warm feeling, just like Grebo on her lap.

"Just because you're paranoid, don't mean they're not after you!" Nirvana (I think)

    How profound!

"every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end"

    Green Day

"I don't want to be anything other than what have been trying to be lately"

    Gavin DeGraw

Both great lines, if a bit profound for someone as shallow as me

    I sit in God's sunset,
    Watching God's evening,
    Receding so gently now,
    into the West lands.
I think I'm at peace now,
but of nothing am I certain.
Only which way will the wind blow,
    next time?

Anthony Phillips, Which Way the Wind Blows, from the Geese and the Ghost

Roy Harper's "When An Old Cricketer Leaves The Crease" from his 'HQ' album has always stuck in my mind (and so it seems, with others too!). One of the best accompaniments written for brass band as well (played by Grimey). Will The Sec should know this one ...

"When the day is done, and the ball has spun
    In the umpire's pocket away,
And all remains, in the groundsman's pains,
For the rest of time and a day.
There'll be one mad dog and his master, pushing for 4 with the spin.
On a dusty pitch, with two pounds six, of willowwood in the sun.

When an old cricketer leaves the crease, you never know whether he's gone,
If maybe you're catching a fleeting glimpse, of a twelfth man at silly mid-on.
And it could be Geoff, and it could be John,
With a new ball sting in his tail.
And it could be me, and it could be thee,
And it could be the sting in the ale.........sting in the ale.
    "

"When the planet hit the sun, I saw the face of Allison"

The Pixies - "Allison", cover version I think but I'm not sure who did the original.

    Nope!

I feel I am culturally lacking

Plus I NEVER push for four. Spinners are there to be hit out of the ground. To quote Beefy, "Step and fetch it bowling" I step - You fetch it... and two pound six bats are for girlies. Mine's 3 pounds 4

    - shows how times have changed since the '70s in Roy Harper's book!

  18. When the day is long and the night, the night is yours alone,
When you're sure you've had enough of this life, well hang on,
Don't let yourself go, 'Cause everybody cries and everybody hurts sometimes. ~ R.E.M.

when im with you it seems so easy, seems so easy,
my best days are with you.. they are so easy, they are so easy ~ The Subways

Nice. Looking at those lyrics out of the context of the (beautiful) song sent a shiver down my spine.

    Thanks, LMM.

The Manic Street Preachers did a version of it for a 25th anniversary issue of the NME, but it's the theme tune from M.A.S.H. originally.

A brave man once requested me,
To answer questions that are key.
"Is it to be or not to be?"
And I replied "Oh why ask me,
    When suicide is painless
    It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it as I please"
And you can do the same thing if you please.

    Kinda thought provoking.
