The Brighouse & Rastrick Band have retained the Saddleworth and Oldham District Whit Friday Championship following on from last years victory. The current Yorkshire Champions took part in eight contests on Friday 1st June, amassing three 1st places (at Greenfield, Greenacres and Grotton), three 2nds (at Denshaw, Dobcross and Uppermill) and 3rd place at Lees and Lydgate.

Missing out on the title were the Hepworth (Lansom) Homes Band who took four first prizes at Dobcross, Lees , Scouthead and Uppermill along with a second place at Greenacres, fourth place at Denshaw and fifth at Delph which saw them in second place overall.

Brighouse were led by Musical Director Alan Morrison who commented:
'It goes without saying that the band are delighted to have retained the Saddleworth title we won last year. Brighouse thoroughly enjoys Whit Friday and it’s a great feeling to play at the venues and receive a warm reception from the locals.
Preparation is always important and since I was appointed as Musical Director the band have taken on board what I have asked of them and reacted positively and so far it’s paid off'.

Alan was quick to acknowledge the runners up going on to say 'Hepworth pushed us close and they're always a band who go out on the night intent on making an impression'.

Brighouse now start their preparations for the English Nationals in Preston on Saturday 30th June. The set test, Peter Graham’s ‘On Alderley Edge’ is held very close to the their heart. It is nearly ten years since B&R won the National Championship of Great Britain on this piece at the Albert Hall. They will be hoping to go one place better after coming 2nd in last years inaugural contest
