    A cracking good comedy

Don’t let the b******s get you down

Grimley, South Yorkshire has been mining coal for over 100 years, but as the mine faces closure so does the much loved and much needed Grimley Colliery Band. Life for the miners and band members looks bleak.

Band leader Danny urges them to stick with it and take part in the National Brass Band Contest and with the arrival of attractive flugelhorn player, Gloria, they agree.

But as the competition draws close so does the fate of the mine and the frictions and stresses of being on the picket line become all too evident. And whose side is Gloria on anyway?

With a selection of the best in brass form around the borough. Don’t miss out on this exuberant celebration of live theatre at its best.

The Coliseum Theatre are delighted to announce that the first show of their autumn season will have an extra special feel to it. The new season opens with the comedy production Brassed Off and to achieve an authentic feel to the show which is centred around a National Brass Band contest the theatre will be featuring not one, not two, not three but four local brass bands.

The bands that will be appearing are:

    Delph Band 8 – 10 September

    Dobcross Silver Band 13 – 17 September

    Boarshurst Silver Band 20 – 24 September

    Diggle Band 27 September – 1 October

Kevin Shaw who will be directing the show said, “It will be terrific for our audience to hear a full brass band live on the stage during the show. We are delighted to be featuring four popular bands from the wealth of talent that we have in this area.”

The show launches the Coliseum’s new season and demand from tickets has already been frantic and the theatre is expecting demand to be very high. Marketing Assistant Sharif Soliman commented, “There certainly seems to be interest from the brass band community and when that is added to our more traditional audience bookings it all adds to the feel of what should be a sensational show. The recent Brass Bands weekend was the usual great success and showed that there is so much interest in this part of the world for quality brass music.”

Customers can effectively see Brassed Off for free if it is booked as part of the Coliseum’s season ticket offer. Customers can come to see Brassed Off together with three other shows for the price of just three shows. The season ticket offer also gives customers free evening parking at the theatre and entitles them to other discounts and special offers.

Tickets for the production can be booked or reserved now by ringing the Coliseum Box Office on 0161 624 2829.

Well worth a visit. We played Brassed Off at York Theatre Royal last year and it proved to be one of the most popular shows at the theatre in living memory! It certainly stands up well in comparison to the film.
