Brass Instrument Acoustics - An Intro

    Sparked by a very interesting post by Moomin Dave, I did some digging around on the net, and found a webpage (with masses of links) covering the subject of how we produce music from brass instruments - and phrased, as far as possible, in layman's language.

    It explains why mouthpieces are shaped the way they are, why instruments have bells, why it is that when you lower the dynamic you also alter the tone, making a more mellow sound - and shedloads more.

    It is, isn't it? Who would have thought blowing air through a metal funnel could be so complicated?
