Brass Bands on the Radio

Discussion in 'The Rehearsal Room' started by Anthony (Scooby) Longden, Dec 2, 2007.

  1. As we know, there is only one national Brass Band radio show/programme , "Listen to the Band" on BBC Radio 2 on a friday night. Up here in the North-West we used to have GMR Brass with John Maines, its so unfortunate that it no long airs on BBC GMR.

Does anyone know of any other radio stations around the North-West that features a Brass Band show/programme?

Not in the North West, but available worldwide on the internet is BBC Cornwall's (and Devon/ Chanel Islands etc) Sounds of Brass, on Sunday evening at 7pm. An hour long feast of brass!

Sorry it's not in the North-west, but if you're ever in the West of Scotland (Argyll, maybe Ayr region, depending on the weather) or apparently Northern Ireland, then see if you can get the brass band show with me on Argyll FM (Sunday morning at 9am, repeated Monday evenings at 7!)

Manx Radio broadcasts 'Time for Brass' with Ian Cottier every Monday night at 9pm.

Your best best would be to listen on line at If you miss the show, you can access it any time throuth the audio vault/ listen again feature.

Go to and search for "all brass bands". Top search result will give you a nonstop online Brass Band radio station.

John Maines has been broadcasting on World of Brass Radio, a weekly programme every Friday, for nearly a year now. It's possible to listen to the previous 3 weeks programmes as well as the current programme too. Find it on the World of Brass home page.

And in addition to the fantastic World of Brass radio there are other streaming radio stations around the world. My old show in Melbourne is still going on You can listen to "Sounding Brass" live at 5pm Saturdays (Australian Eastern Daylight Savings Time) if you have a windows based computer (us Mac users cannot listen to their stream:( ). There is another show in New South Wales that stream as well (actually I think there are back episodes - but am not sure). Of course there is also Brasscast - which I present. We now have available on our website a list of all pieces that have been played on Brasscast in the last 3 years, and you can click the link to listen to the podcast. Whilst not always Brittish style brass bands, the focus is usually on some brass group - this week is Canadian Brass, and is well worth listening to if you like Christmas music!!:icon_lol:
