Just for fun, if you had to set some questions on the subject of 'Brass Banding' for a pub quiz, what would your questions be? Give us the question and the answer too, but maybe do it so that in order to see the answer we have to scroll down a page or two. I'm no brass band expert - I just wondered the sort of thing that brass band experts are expected to know...

    I'll ask:

On the Williams Fairey Engineering recording entitled 'Let's Go', who was the Euphonium solist and what did they play?

I only ask this as it was one of the very first brass band albums I ever bought and I still rate it highly. No 'google'ing for the answer!!!

    At a guess......

1981 British Open. City of Coventry, Arthur Kenny. Variations on a Ninth. Vinter.

Although the grand shield was held at belle vue in 1982, the Kings Hall was knocked down. It was held in the Cumberland Suite.

Test piece Festival Music by Eric Ball
    1. Brodsworth Colliery, Drew 20 last band. Judge Ken Dennison

    Pure guesswork from memory.

The NWBBA contest in February 1982, won by Dobcross Silver.

That's a tough question, even for band geeks! If its a normal pub quiz for non-banders though, I'd probably stick with something simple like can you name a brass band instrument......!

I'm still scratching my head over this one if the trophy is still used for contesting! I did think of the W.D. & H.O. Wills Champion of Champions contest that rivalled the World Championships at the start of the '70s but ...
