Brass Band "news" featured on Nation Public Radio in USA

    Apart from the fact that it might give the impression that most, or all bands in the UK are associated with the coal-mining industry, it seems fair enough. Although it might also have pointed out that while brass bands don't get very much public money given to them as a special interest group, they do have the means to support themselves nationally (through their own pockets), but have historically chosen not to do so (by failing to set up their own national body).

    I wonder to what extent this article is part of Grimethorpe's quest for more sponsorship and recognition? Good luck to them, I say.

    Strange how people outside the UK recognise the value of the brass band Movement and it's quintessential Britishness, yet it appears to be a throw away tradition to those agencies who support the "arts" in this country with our tax money. To paraphrase from The Big Yellow Taxi, "they won't know what they've got till its gone!"
