Ever since they were founded in 2004, Brass Band Heist, conducted by Bert Van Thienen, has had the ambition of being something out of the ordinary in their community (the city of Heist-op-den-Berg in central Belgium). After two years of hard work, the band now has a strong line up, and they are working hard to achieve the goals that were set.

On januari 14 and March 17/18 2007, the band went to the famous "GALAXY Studio's" in Mol (Belgium) to record their first CD. The idea for this started after the band's concert tour to England last fall and the good results that the band got at the Belgian Nationals last November. With this CD, the band wants to showcase the possibilities of brass band music to the Belgian public, and also showcase some of the talented young musicians in our country.

The CD consists of a mix of solo pieces and pieces for full band. Jan Van der Roost's "Concerto Grosso" was conducted by the composer himself, and the solo parts were played by Bert Van Thienen on trumpet and Walter Hoeks (Brass Band Willebroek) on trombone. The band's young euphonium star, Glen Van Looy, played the solo piece "Lucy Long". Especially for this CD, a new solo work for soprano cornet was written by the young composer Stijn Roels. The piece is called "Lyrica" and the solo was played by Bert Van Thienen. "Lyrica"will also be the title of the CD. Finally the CD also contains the third section test piece of last year's Belgian Nationals: Gregson's Variations on Laudate Dominum.

I only know the song Variations on Laudate Dominum from that list.
  3. A reason to buy the CD and listen to the other tracks! ;)
