Douglas Yeo Takes the Lead with Bone Blow 2009

In support of the Association of Band Trader’s charity drive to raise money for a bursury for the National Youth Brass Band and National Children’s Brass Band of Great Britain, Douglas Yeo (renowned bass trombonist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Vice President of NABBA) is championing ‘Bone Blow 2009’ on Saturday 17th January 2009 at the forthcoming Butlins brass band contest in Skegness.

All trombonists attending Skegness for the weekend are invited to join this fun event to help make up a massed trombone ensemble jamming session, with Douglas Yeo leading the way! It’s intended to perform a selection of three specially arranged pieces including the grand finale for the massed trombones of Bone Blow 2009 - a unique arrangement of ‘76 Trombones’.

Douglas Yeo comments: “This is a fun project I’m hoping will attract a large number of trombonists. It’ll be a massive sound, quite unlike anything we’ve heard before! I’m extremely grateful to all those who have got involved in making this idea a reality – Band Supplies Ltd has been so generous with their donation of an Elkhart tenor trombone for the prize draw, Jon Handley of Tor Designs Ltd has been key in the organisation of this event as my liaison with Butlins, the music arrangers Steve Bulla and Ken Amis have provided their considerable arranging skills in aid of the event, and The Music Company (UK) Ltd has kindly agreed to supply the multiple copies of all the music we’ll be playing. It’s just fantastic to see so many people pulling together to make this happen.”

Everyone wanting to be involved can attend a rehearsal which will take place at the Butlins Resort, Skegness in The Royal Arthur Suite at 16.30-17.30 on Saturday 17th January. The world debut of this unique ensemble will then follow later that evening at 19.00 in Reds, forming part of the Saturday evening awards ceremony.

    Win a Trombone!
All music will be supplied and entry is open to all trombonists and, with the purchase of the special prize draw tickets, everyone will also have an opportunity to win a brand new trombone too!

The Bone Blow 2009 event is not only a unique experience, but one that will provide a direct benefit to the future bursary recipients of the NYBB and NCBB of GB. Thanks to TOR Designs Ltd, there will also be keepsake Bone Blow 2009 merchandise available to order at the event.
