Bob Childs makes a rare public performance playing a major concerto with London's Zone One Brass. The rest of the programme features two classics from the repertoire and a rare original work for band.

    John Ireland
    'Comedy Overture'

    John Golland
    'Euphonium Concerto No.1'

    Philip Wilby
    'Paganini Variations'

    Imogen Holst, revised Paul Hindmarsh
    'The Unfortunate Traveller'

Zone One Brass, conducted by Richard Ward
    Euphonium soloist, Bob Childs

    August 11th, 20.00
    Coronation Hall
    Ulverston

I heard Bob do a duet with David last week. Fantastic players both, (but I think Bob just edged it).

The piece by Imogen Holst sounds an exciting find - have just been reading about it on 4BR. Perhaps you could persuade Mr Hindmarsh to programme it for the RNCM festival next year?

It reminds me of Howard Snell's discovery of Vaughan Williams' Henry the Fifth overture back in the 1980's. How on earth do we allow such pieces simply to disappear? I wonder how many other gems are buried at the back of filing cabinets?
