    PRESS RELEASE

Black Dyke Trombone Quartet play Downton

The award winning Woodfalls Brass Band are delighted to announce a joint concert with the Black Dyke Trombone Quartet in memory of popular local trombonist Dave Shelley at St Laurence Church, Downton on May 10.

Dave Shelley, a great great grandson of the founder of the Woodfalls band, died last March after 51 years of service playing trombone for Woodfalls. Such is the respect for Dave amongst the brass band community that the world famous Black Dyke Trombone Quartet are making the journey all the way down from Yorkshire to appear at the concert.

The quartet features Brett Baker, Paul Woodward, Garry Reed and Adrian Hirst, the trombone team of the illustrious Black Dyke band and all soloists in their own right. The quartet has performed across the globe and is highly renowned for their musical expertise and entertaining programmes.

Woodfalls Band will be also be appearing at the concert, having just been ranked the 18th best brass band in the world. The band have won the right to represent the South West at the National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall twice in a row, coming sixth in 2013 making them the highest placed southern band in twenty years.

Woodfalls Bandmaster Paul Williams said “this will be a fabulous concert, both the band and the Black Dyke trombones are preparing some lovely music for the event. It would be fantastic to see the church packed out to remember our dear friend and musician Dave Shelley plus raise lots of funds for a very worthy cause.”

The concert starts at 7pm and is free to attend. A retiring collection will be made on behalf of the British Heart Foundation and band funds and refreshments will be available.
