I don't claim to be an expert on test pieces, I have my favourites just like anyone.

I was just wondering what other people think might be the most innovative, enjoyable/entertaining, challenging test pieces of the recent times? Basically your favourites, and that will stand the test of time like the good oldies.

I currently like The Saga of Haakon the Good and ...and when the river told...

"best" is nore than a little subjective, but the ones I've enjoyed either playing or listening to the most and would really like to hear more of, are
    Dances & Alleluias
    Extreme Makeover
    St Magnus
    Vienna Nights

Vienna Nights for me too, a classic, although I did also very much enjoy And When the River Told.

Played "Variations on an Enigma" at an own choice with Cambridge two years ago if that counts , cracking EEb part and we got a 2nd place on it.

At the risk of summoning He-who-must-not-be-named I also enjoyed "James Cook" and "Salute to Youth" couple of years back with Ipswich at Butlins / Area.

In terms of listening , "Eden" and "Torchbearer" are faves as well.

For me, in terms of listening I have to go with "Audivi Media Nocte", "Titans Progress" and "Extreme Makeover"

The more I listen to 31342 Feet (Ludovic Neurohr), the better it gets.

Albion; Contest Music; Eden; Elgar Variations; Extreme Makeover; Music for Battle Creek; On The Shoulders of Giants; St. Magnus; Torchbearer; Vienna Nights. In alphabetical order because I could never pick a single favourite let alone put my favourite ten in any order; then again, tomorrow my top ten could well be different as I think of Concertino; Harrison's Dream; Breath of Souls; Spiriti; From Ancient Times; Revelation; Rococo goodness there has been some very fine music used in the past 10 years.
  15. Almost anything by Peter Graham.

So many to choose from, but it has to be Titan's Progress for me, without a doubt. I also like Spirit of Puccini (Pallhuber again) and Malcolm Arnold Variations (Ellerby). I'm getting into Electra too, which is another Ellerby piece
