My Bb/F trombone has developed a horrible clank on the valve. My local repairer has had a look at it but it's no better. I'm after the collective's opinion on who is the best repairer for a rotary valve. I'm in Gloucestershire but prepared to travel nationwide for the right repair.

Try PMing Moomindave...he's a font of knowledge about such things!

I'll just recommend Mick Rath in Huddersfield. Had good service from Bryce Ferguson (Edinburgh/Nottingham) recently too. Haven't found any high quality repairers near here, to be honest. There's some decent chaps, but no standouts. Sharon McCallum in Kent is supposed to be good, too.

You could try asking the people at Flowers band... I believe one of their regular trombone deps, Justin Pavey, does good work?

I will second Dave's suggestion of Mick Rath. The man is a genius with all things trombone.

If you can't get up to Huddersfield though, Dennis Wedgwood in Cardiff is a good repairer.
If you go to Wedgie though DO NOT TAKE A GIG BAG!!! Hard cases only (Unless you want to incur his wrath)

I had heard though that Sharon McCallum has moved to South West Wales but don't know if that is true....

Try Justin Pavey at BrassWindFix - he's a specialist (as he's a trom player himself), did a great job on a sticking valve for me and was very reasonable. He's based in Somerset but travels to Gloucester quite a lot.

Cheers gang. Both this trombone and my bass have had work done at Rath before which I was very impressed with, so looks like he's still the best option. I've a nasty feeling the valve needs replacing but hopefully there's scope to repair it.
