Best Instrument In The Whole Brass Band??
Sop of course!!!!!!
nah! its got to b tenor horn-it has everything:
even tho im a percussionist, i feel i should say a percussion instrument, however im not...
one of my fave instruments in the band is the flugel, it has such a nice sound, and when combined with tenor horns, and euphs and baris, can create absolutely amazing effects.
tenor horn being my fave after flugel
I'll say the Bb bass for laying the foundation of every major chord and giving the brass band its UMPH!!
Colin does a fantastic job in our band of helping us all feel the bottom of the chord with his pedals...then you can feel in tune instead of having to listen to it.
Castonettes come a close second though
OK in order
tenor horn (i play it what else am i gonna say?)
bass trombone/trombone/percussion (sp) (its noisy like me...)
Bass Eb and Bb/Bari
Hmm im not very good at deciding...
The foxy, sensuous (except when I play it), mellow flugel!
Lets understand your rguments here then...
Depends on who's playing it!!!
When they decide to actually blow it out rather than suck!! Too many players don't give it enough welly!!
If you like off beats! Beaten only by the back row cornets!!
Actually, I quite like the horn as an intrument when it is played well.
I think the same of most brass band instruments as long as they are played well enough. When they aren't they can all sound like drunken farts or fog horns!!
The winners have to be Euph and Flugal though. Coming from a Cornet player, I hope that says a lot!
To play - Eb Bass.
To listen to - has to be the Euph.
But best of all has to be the full band!

My teacher said that!
I have to say Tenor Horn! (not just cause i play it)
I have left playing this instrument so many times and have always gone back.
I think if the player can give it some welly aswell as loads of vib when needed its great.
Well I certainly blow my horn!! (see sig!)
1st - Best instrument, or section as I prefer is the HORN section therefore including Flugel!! The middle of the band provides the warmth!! So, Baritones can be included if they're lucky!
2nd - I love it though when you can feel the Basses through the floor. It was a bit mean laying the carpet on top of them though!!
3rd - A good Bass Trombone as well rasping through!!
We've just finished recording a CD today and the sound is awesome even if I say so myself!!
Just got to think of a title for it now!!
I would say euph to listen to, and baritone to play. But then sop sounds great too, although I gave it up after a month, I admire anyone who can get a decent sound out of one!
