After a meeting yesterday of the "task group brass band" of VLAMO, the Flemish Amateur Music Organisation, the set pieces for this years Belgian National Brass Band Championships have been announced:

Championship division: Vienna Nights - Philip Wilby
First division: Purcell Variants - Peter Meechan
Second division: Call of the Righteous - Leslie Condon
Third division: Anglian Dances - Alan Fernie

As usual, the championships will take place at the end of November in the Royal Music Conservatory of Brussels. There is one change to the format this year: the championship section bands are no longer playing an own choice piece besides the set piece. For the lower sections, nothing has changed. The reason for this is to limit the total time of the contest. The number of competing bands has increased in the last couple of years, but the organizers still want to limit the contest to one day and one hall.

1 day after the test pieces were announced, the organisers already had to change the second division piece: it has been replaced by Oceans by Goff Richards. Apperantly they had forgotten that Call of the Righteous had already been used as the third division test piece two years ago... Can you believe that! Lucky enough they noticed it within a day...
