Working tonight (my time in the US) I noticed I could not get onto the Brass Band Aid website. I hope this is a temporary problem and not a permanent one.

But it has persisted for well over an hour now.

Now it has been almost two days. Not likely a small server problem. Of course, the same site hosts Stanhope Silver Band's website too.

Neither is working. I hope it is not permanent and somebody forgot to pay the bill.

That's a possibility. These things can happen if you have an annual or bi-annual bill and you're not set up for Direct Debit or Standing Order and not sent a reminder.

I hope that is the case, rather than "giving up". Unfortunately, if you forget to pay your URL registration some jerk will nab it and charge you a fortune for it.

We will see. Down for several days now.

Very easy to do a whois database check to see when a domain name expires. If this is an ISP who's server has gone up the spout then its not very good for it to be down for so long even over the Christmas period.

Well, I checked and the domain name doesn't expire until 23 April 2008 so its not that. I note that the URL re-directs to an academic institution based in Sunderland ( My guess is that the University IT dept. are taking the chance of some downtime to do some maintenance work on their servers. They're not an ISP so they have no service agreements to meet and only need the servers back up before term time starts.

    BBA Webiste alive and well...again

The BBA website is alive and well again following a mini hernia which resulted in its bed ridden state for a couple of days. In effect, so I am told by those who know, there was a problem with the server, to technical for me hence the hernia!
