Considering the number of bandspersons at this delightful event on Saturday, surely someone than just me from Tmp was there??

I know for a fact Carlton Main, Hatfield and Old Silkstone were there and also contain Tmpers. In fact Old Silkstone seemed to have every bandsperson in South Yorkshire in their ranks!!

    Was just wondering...

Hmm, looked for a female trombonist in CMF's rank but couldn't see one :? Mustn't have been lookin hard enough..

Was a good day, although I think the march "designer" needs to be strapped into a BBb bass and made to march it himself. That hill towards the end.. what a killer!!

Had some good post march beverages with Silkstone in "The Bush Inn" for most of the afternoon. got muchos sunburnt and muchos merry!

But what were the Miners demonstrating against?..........It really is a serious question. I come from Staffs where we have no mines or miners anymore.............very sad.

Oh well, there will be other times. There was only two trombone players to pick from. Nay matter, I was the one making sure that the band went in the right direction   Should have thought myself to look for more tMPers, why didn't I think of that???? :dunno

Drove past the "The Bush Inn" to see my many friends involved with Silkstone, but was sitting in the middle of a van and couldn't reach the window to shout out any abuse!

    I was there too!
It is true we had lots of deps - some of them even played a few nasty tricks on band members - you know who you are!
Imagine my horror when a dep points at paper on the ground mid march, you think its a march card and pick it up - only to find it's a leaflet!!
I got all confused!! Not good on such a long march!

If I'm not mistaken it was to do with the 20th anniversary of Miner's Strike. And not sure how many, if any of the "demonstrators" still work down't pit

Durham still have their "Gala" annually, although that event is a lot more about having a good day out. I felt the Barnsley one had a bit more of a militant feel about it... lot of political overtones to it all IMHO.

Yes it was a bit militant. Lots of leaflets for the communist party etc floating about. We were handed something about womens lib in Iraq? Were they also marching through Barnsley. I doubt it. They may all be blowing themselves up over there but i doubt any are stupid enough to walk miles uphill trying to play a bloody march.

Can somebody please burn all copies of Westwood Ho, Chieftain, Slaidburn etc, etc. That way we need never march again!!!!!!!

Sounds like this was a canny day for beer :D

Toni, you should know never to listen to what anyone on the march tells you to do... they are just trying to stop the beautiful sounds from your euph :D but what the hell were you doing picking something up... once its dropped it stays dropped!

    Re: March

    I'm sure tubafran will be willing to tell us all the story about his "anarchists" but I doubt he will, so i will;

Francis informed us all, pre march that following his in depth internet research, he reckoned a large group of anarchists were gonna use the march to start a riot. A good point, although one BBS member did state "why weren't you looking for porn like any normal person". As it happened though we could only spot 5 anarchists and they, like us were enjoying a pint in the Bush Inn and didn't look like starting any sort of a riot other than in the bar queue.

Hmm, seemed like an amusing tale at the time..... :? Will reread this post after 6 pints...
