Audley Brass are celebrating after learning that they will receive £2,000 from the Barclays Community Investment Programme to help support the rebuilding of the bands new rehearsal facility.

The band has raised £30,000 during the past ten years towards rebuilding the band room and finally moved out of its traditional home in Dean Hollow last summer, with the old hall being demolished to make for the new building on the same site.

Since then the band have been rehearsing at various venues around the village including St James Church and Audley Theatre and are grateful of the support received from people around the village.

The work is slowly nearing completion and the additional funding from Barclays will enable the band to complete the project. The band hopes to move into their new home in May.

Steve Barwick of Barclays said: “At Barclays we are committed to looking after local communities – this is a great community project which is based in the heart of Audley village and promotes music learning for all ages.”

The funds come from Barclays Community Investment Programme, which in 2005 donated £39.1 million, or 1% of UK pre-tax profits.

Audley Brass chairman Peter Hawxwell was delighted with the support Barclays have shown and said: “The band is thrilled to have received this cheque of £2000 from Barclays. The cheque was presented to us at a concert we gave in Audley in front of an audience of supporters and friends of the band. The money will be used to enhance the bands current building fund.”

A lot of us are guilty of criticising banks and their approach to 'communicating' with their customers i.e us.

On this occasion kudos to Barclays Bank  on helping out with this appeal and reaching out into the community. Well done James and Audley Brass.

That's great news, as a fairly recent former player I know only too well the problems the band has had with the new band room facility! Excellent news, I hope everything moves forward swiftly for the band now!
