Bands premiere new work by local young composer

A new composition by Macclesfield young composer Mark Scott will be one of the highlights of a joint charity concert by The Bollington Band and The Macclesfield Youth Brass Band this Saturday 4th July at The Fallibroome Hall in Macclesfield.

Mark, a founder member of Macclesfield Youth Brass Band and former Fallibroome High School pupil, has just completed his first year studies in composition at Birmingham Conservatoire. His ‘African Odyssey’ is a set of 8 symphonic scenes exploring the ideas and traditions of Africa. Mark was inspired to write the 16 minute piece by some visiting students from Starehe School in Nairobi who performed at a joint concert with the youth band last year.

The live recording of the performance by the massed band will be available to download after the concert via a link from with all proceeds going to the Martyn Donaldson Music Trust which supports music at Starehe School by supplying instruments and funding a music teacher.

The concert starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £6 for adults and £3 for children, available from Mark Taylor (01625 261410) or Roger Johnson (01625 613851) and on the door. Proceeds from the concert will be split between the Martyn Donaldson Music Trust and the Macclesfield Castle Rotary Club charities.
