Last night we had a band social - ten pin bowling! We had a very enjoyable night and were thinking what activity can we do next.....?

Last time we went Laser Questing which was extremely good fun though some people did take it quite seriously and would zap anyone in sight! I recommend this to anyone! It was a very good laugh!

What band socials has your band had (apart from the obvious  ) ??

    Any ideas are welcome!

Lots of drinking. Not a band do but there was a bunch of us from my work that went to the races for a day (minst you chester and aintree are just down the road). other then that ten pin bowling and lazer quest seem good ideas. How bout a band BBQ now that its coming up to summer get someone with a big barbecue and a big field and you can eat burgers and sit round and play footy all day.

Someone in my band, can't remember who, once said I couldn't organise a piss up in a I did.

Don't remember much of the evening because I'd had a day off and so stayed in the pub all day with some friends, so by the time we got there I was already half cut. I had a lovely black eye the next day where my head met with a beer barrel on the way to the floor when my legs stopped working

We've turned a band job in to a social next week...we're playing at peasolme park in Scarborough and we're having a picnic on the beach, and everyone has had to draw a piece of paper out of a tub and then they have to provide whatever food is written on the paper they get.

    I got vegetarian Quiches!!!

We keep mentioning things like days out to Alton Towers and stuff like that but when you have a mix of age groups it's difficult to find something that appeals to everyone that wants to join in.

I think Alton Towers could cause heart attacks for some. Also youd have to go before all the schools broke up to stop ureself having to wait seven hours for a ride (Did that last year and we got on Air three times within an hour)

i went pintballing with my old band. It was a thouroughly enjoyable day. I'd recommend it to any band. And the good thing is, anyone that really bugs you in the bandroom, you can shoot  great fun.

In my old band (Shropshire Youth) there was all sorts of days out and the odd tour for the social side (to be expected for a youth band I suppose!) - it didn't quite make up for lack of drinking though! :p :D

We're hoping to have a band trip to see Jethro at his club about an hour and a half away from us in the summer.
Also maybe a day out at beach. We always seem to have lots of band bbqs in the summer as well which are always great!! We're also having a sponsored bike ride to land's end (about 200miles from us) in August - but there's only a few of us in the band who are mad enough to do that though so it's not really a whole band social!

I know someone who did actually get shot when we were on a band trip to Denmark with a BB Gun by another member of the band. The funny thing is the guy said hed not shot him but that hed jumped infront of the bullet (i know its not technically a bullet), strange that isnt it.

We used to have a fairly active Social comittee and band, but it's dropped slightly. I am hoping we can turn it around. But here's some of the band's "faves".

** Miss Municipal Contest ('cuz we're the Gladstone Municipal Band)
Males dress up in drag for a fashion show\ beauty pageant. Many memories and concert ideas

    ** Monthly suppers.
OK, every night after band, some people hang around for a few then hit the road. However, some people, especially the kids, find this activity runs a little long. So once a month, band finishes early, a nominated section brings in a plate of food, and the drinking, eating and socialising starts early!

    ** Games Nights
Come along with your fave card/board game. Set it up, and play! Taboo is a popular fave

    ** BBQ's
Like, d'uh!! Beer and burnt food!!!

    ** Oktoberfests
This is under discussion for the legal members. Hire a mini bus and head up north the the massive Oktoberfest in Yeppoon. More Beer!!!

(Has anyone worked out the other meaning of GMB yet??????? It should be obvious by now!!)

    ** Play Station/XBox/LAN nights
Currently being tossed about. I took my PS2 to contest this year (mainly to use as a portable DVD player, but I had some games in too) and the band loved it!! Looking at getting a network/ or multitap night where we can have lots of players and lots of games. Appeals to the new age muso.

    ** Fishing trips
We live on the Great Barrier reef, and our part-time principal trombonist runs a tackle shop and charter business.........also another good chance to drink beer.

    ** Bowling
It has been done.......dunno if we could do it again.

    ** Inter-section Carnival
An idea I've had in my mind for a while, but I doubt we could get to work. Over the course of the month, piut section against section every weekend in numerous events, such as Air Guitar nights or Kareoke, bowling, touch footy and so forth...... AS I said, something I've been thinking about.

That's about it. BTW, GMB's other name (it pops up a lot on ANZAC Day) is Great Mob of Boozers.

curries and pub crawls tend to work for our lot... we're having a day out in scarborough when we play there... paint ball could be good though, shooting people is always fun! (just ask the NRA...)

The bowling was good, however I got beaten by a girl...

I want a Eurovision party, but people just weren't interested.

Whisky tasting is obviously the way forward.

    Paintballing hurts!!!!!

I seriously hope that wasn't my sister. If so you should be extremely embarrased right now!!!!!    [disclaimer: I am not saying my sister is completely rubbish at bowling at all  ]

Yes, unfortunately it was your sister (I have to say this cos she got the score sheet printed out). She beat me in both games  . She got about 90 in the first game and 102 in the second one so she's not that bad.
