Brighouse and Rastrick Band are pleased to announce that Assistant Principal Cornet player Martin Irwin has taken up the vacant Soprano Cornet position. Martin previously played Soprano with the band between 1996 and 2001, rejoining on B flat cornet in 2006. He is no stranger to success with the sop having been part of the triple champions band in 1998 and also winning best soloist at the British Open in 1998.

Sean Conway joins the band on second Euphonium from Lindley. Sean has already enjoyed a victory at Brass in Concert and has shown his class and experience by recently deputising for Michael Howley on Solo Euphonium.

One man soon to be departing after seven fantastic years with the band is Melvyn Bathgate who steps down to concentrate on his business interests. The band wish Melvyn all the best but are fortunate not to be loosing his services completely as he is keen to get actively involved in the running of the band as a committee member. Current first horn player Daniel Powell steps up to take over Melvyn’s solo horn position.

Congratulations Daniel. Great news that you've got the seat your talent and ability deserve, and it couldn't of happened to a nicer, more unassuming bloke too.

It's always good to read when friends get a break in life and I am so pleased to read that Martin has gone back on Sop with the mighty Briggus, (Might have to re-live the challenge of the Cancer Research Band again Martin), and to Sean, great to see you have eventually got a seat which you so rightly deserve. Long time since Marsden mate.
Best of luck to all and seasons greetings to your families.
