Yorkshire champions, The Brighouse and Rastrick Band are set to let prospective audience members select the theme of their forthcoming massed bands concert with the Fodens Richardson Band to be held on 27th October.

‘B. & R.’ have been running bi-annual massed bands concerts in Huddersfield Town Hall since 1944. For at least the last 20 years each concert has had a theme. Past themes include Myths & Legends, Brass on Broadway, East meets West, Concert Hall Classics, All around the World, An Evening to Remember, 'Proms' , Night at the Opera, 20th Century, Stage & Screen, and before that, French & Russian evenings to name but a few.

But in the true tradition of aiming to please the audience, the band have decided to open up the selection of a theme to the public.

The person who comes up with the winning theme (which will be picked by the Band Committee and Guest Conductor, Richard Evans) will win two tickets in the Mayor’s Box (with VIP Reception before the concert).

Band President, Paul Beaumont, said this week that ‘our massed bands concerts have a long tradition of entertaining a wide audience ranging from ardent fans to people who attend spasmodically. The bands always play to a capacity audience
of around 1,100 people and our main aim is to make sure that we entertain them to the maximum. So what better way, this time, than to ask them to suggest an eye-catching theme of their own choosing?’

To enter, send entries to John Ingman by email at johningman@blueyonder.co.uk or by post at West Ridings, Finkil Street, Brighouse, HD6 2NY. Deadline for entries is 30th June.

Winner of the competetition to select the theme for the massed bands concert was Mr. Wesley Thompson from Belfast. He proposed the theme 'Earth Wind and Fire' and guest conductor Richard Evans and the band's committee chose this from a strong field of entries.

Congratulations to Wesley who receives 2 VIP tickets to the concert.
