Blackburn and Darwen Band have signed four players in the last few weeks, strengthening the band in preparation for their National Finals appearance later this year.

The new players are Tom Johnson ( Soprano Cornet), his son Rob (Front row Cornet), Steven Breen (2nd Trombone) and Sean Fielding (Back row Cornet).

Tom returns to the band having first joined in 1982 under Musical Director and friend Gordon Clough. He enjoyed a great deal of success on the contest platform and has many fond memories of this era. Rob started playing at the age of eleven also with Hesketh Bank Band. His fine sound on cornet will be a real asset to the front row.

The Johnsons are the second father-and-son team in the band, as Principal Cornet player Alan Thomas is the father of Matthew, the band’s young Repiano Cornet player.

Steven Breen, a well know character in the North West banding scene, has lots of experience and completes a super trombone team. Sean Fielding is a talented musician who is new to the brass band scene. His contesting debut will be at the National Finals in Harrogate!

With fundraising for the Finals in mind, the band has also launched a Patrons society in order to help the band build its support base and generate additional income. Members receive a regular newsletter and free tickets to hear the band in concert. For more details see the band’s website www.blackburnanddarwenband.co.uk
